C2SMARTER at TRB 2024

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) 102nd Annual Meeting was held in person, January 8–12, 2023 in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme, Rejuvenation Out of Disruption: Envisioning a Transportation System for a Dynamic Future, asked participants to envision transportation in a post-COVID world. C2SMART was well-represented at TRB this year, with 39 affiliated students and researchers presenting ongoing work.

ITS-NY 30th Annual Meeting and Technology Exhibition

On March 28, 2023, C2SMART Center and NYU’s student chapter of ITE hosted the 5th Annual Women in Transportation Panel at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Over 50 rising transportation professionals attended the hour-long panel discussion focused on gender equity in the workforce and throughout global transportation systems. The panelists shared insights about their experiences as women in a male-dominated field of work, including gender challenges in transportation, advice for overcoming those challenges, and tips for aspiring transportation engineers and planners.

FIRST KN-C³ WORKSHOP WITH KAIST

Over the course of May 15-18th, NYU Tandon hosted KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology) for the first KN-C³ Workshop. KAIST faculty and students traveled from Korea for the four-day workshop for a research exchange between the two schools, which focused on transportation and urban research.

5th Annual Women in Transportation Panel

On March 28, 2023, C2SMART Center and NYU’s student chapter of ITE hosted the 5th Annual Women in Transportation Panel at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. NYC Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment

The New York City Connected Vehicle Pilot Program (NYC CVPD), led by the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), will use vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) DSRC communications to improve safety through the reduction of vehicle and pedestrian crashes, injuries, and fatalities.

Modeling Amazon HQ2

When Amazon announced that it was considering Long Island City, NY as a location for its second headquarters, it drew notable media attention, much of it centered around speculation of the impact that the ‘HQ2’, as seen in the figure below, would have on its local community. The addition of a major business hub could affect, or even disrupt, the functioning of systems, from food sales to the various layers of the transportation network.

Bingqing Liu and the Transportation Revolution

“Transportation,” says Bingqing Liu, “can be revolutionary.” For Liu, the rapidly changing nature of transportation systems is its biggest draw — as early as high school, she was fascinated by how quickly transportation technology was evolving.
