When Amazon announced that it was considering Long Island City, NY as a location for its second headquarters, it drew notable media attention, much of it centered around speculation of the impact that the ‘HQ2’, as seen in the figure below, would have on its local community. The addition of a major business hub could affect, or even disrupt, the functioning of systems, from food sales to the various layers of the transportation network.

The Urban Initiative hosted the 6th annual Urban Research Day on March 8, 2022. The event aims to convene faculty from across NYU to present their urban research as a way to share knowledge and increase scholarly collaboration. C2SMART students and faculty were well represented at the event, showcasing their work across C2SMART’s research areas.
On February 24, 2022, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) hosted a video forum featurin the latest innovative research in artificial intelligence (AI) in transportation from University Transportation Centers (UTCs) across the country. The webinar featured the research of 11 UTCs, including C2SMART, showcasing their USDOT-funded AI research and its potential impact on society.
