Read MoreOn October 14, this year’s TransportationCamp-NYC was held at the former New York City Transit Authority Headquarters in Brooklyn, NY. After hosting the event at external sites for its 12 years in NYC, organizers were excited to bring the sold out event back to NYU, utilizing the 370 Jay Street building this year. Over 200 attendees ranging from students to industry professionals braved the rain to participate in the student-run event.
Instead of a typical conference format, TransportationCamp’s sessions are programmed and led by the attendees leading to the “unconference” classification. This year saw hundreds of enthusiastic participants come together to brainstorm, present their own ideas, and engage with their fellow attendees.
As in past years, C2SMARTER was a proud sponsor and co-host of TransportationCamp. Organizers welcomed 200 total attendees and fielded 31 attendee-designed sessions. Many of those attendees were students, all of whom received tickets paid for by Camp’s 2023 sponsors.
TCNYC awarded 2 undergraduate and 2 graduate scholarships; the 4 winners were selected from a transportation essay submission.
TransportationCamp is run entirely by volunteers, and provides an incredible opportunity not just for graduate students, but undergraduates as well, as it is staffed in part by the NYU-ITE Student Chapter.
The conference included such sessions as:
- Prioritizing Transportation Education for the Public
- Transit Tech is Civic Tech
- Sustainable Streets in the USA
- Digital Rider Experience
- The Future of Penn Station
- and more (see the full session list here).
This year’s unconference concluded with a bike tour along the Hudson River Greenway in Manhattan.
