C2SMARTER FDNY Collaboration Included in Popular Science’s 50 Greatest Innovations of 2024

December 9, 2024

The AI-reinforced Digital Twin focused C2SMARTER project, conducted in partnership with the FDNY, has been named one of 2024’s greatest innovations by Popular Science.

The study’s aim is to utilize the Center’s cutting edge technologies to help the Fire Department cut their medical emergency response times, which have seen an increase over recent years. The AI-powered platform allows researchers to analyze traffic patterns, unearthing data that can ensure FDNY ambulances travel the fastest, safest routes during emergencies.

The C2SMARTER team has been building a traffic digital twin (TDT) virtual test bed, which can evaluate interventions and support decision-making and planning in a safe simulation environment.

Congratulations to Prof. Joe Chow, Jingqin Gao, Prof. Kaan Ozbay, and all of the student researchers who are working on this ongoing endeavor!
