Read MoreC2SMART Center has been awarded an additional year of funding worth $1.4 million by the US Department of Transportation (USDOT), extending C2SMART’s Tier 1 University Transportation Center (UTC) designation to September 2023. With this additional year of funding and designation, C2SMART aims to continue and expand its slate of funded research projects in transportation in smart cities, big data analytics, infrastructure resiliency, transportation equity, and more, over the course of the upcoming year.
The C2SMART Center is part of a cohort of USDOT University Transportation Centers, working to bridge the gap between academic research, industry adoption and agency implementation. Led by NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering, C2SMART also includes Rutgers University, University of Texas – El Paso, University of Washington, and City College of NY. The Center operates with a thematic focus on improving the mobility of people and goods through Big Data and Planning for Smart Cities, Infrastructure Resilience, Shared and Micromobility, Equity and Accessibility, Safety in Transportation Systems, and Connected and Autonomous Mobility.
With this additional year, C2SMART has ambitious plans in line with USDOT and the U.S. Secretary of Transportation’s vision for future of U.S. transportation, including research tracks devoted to improving transportation equity and accessibility, a focus on electric vehicles, and infrastructure resiliency. Over the next year, C2SMART will enhance its agency and industry partnerships to enhance student- and faculty-driven research into these important topics.
Throughout the last 5 years, the Center has produced such large-scale research efforts as the BQE Urban Roadway testbed, a Multi-Agent Simulation Testbed, Sensors to Predict and Measure Urban Flooding in Real-Time, and a four-year research partnership with New York State Department of Transportation, along with implementation of the C2SMART Student Learning Hub, and the C2SMART Center Webinar Series.
As a consortium of more than 30 faculty researchers with upwards of 20 active projects, C2SMART also works to further develop the workforce of tomorrow through mentorship and advisement for students in transportation, facilitating the development of valuable academic and professional skills on these cutting-edge research projects.
