 Shared Mobility
Valuing Vehicle Rebalancing in Free-Float Carsharing Systems
Principal Investigator: Don MacKenzie, UW
Objective: Analyze optimal rebalancing operations for FFCS systems by identifying high-value
hotspots based not only on demand at that hotspot, but on the expected revenue potential for subsequent trips, and; considering the potential for localized saturation of demand based on micro-level vehicle positioning.
Impact of Ride-Sharing in New York City
Principal Investigator: Stanislav Sobolevsky, NYU
Objective: Develop a comprehensive model of urban transportation demand given multiple available modes, including for-hire vehicles and their shared options, enabling assessment of the impact of shared mobility on urban transportation mode choice, which can be further translated into economic, social and environmental impacts.
  Resiliency & Infrastructure Management
Sparkman: A Smart Parking Management Tool for University Campuses
Principal Investigator: Kelvin Cheu, UTEP
Objective: Using a total parking demand model for students and a base price model for
student parking permits based on data gathered from a survey on parking at university
campuses, this project aims to develop a student parking lot zoning and zone permit pricing model, and then integrate the total demand model, base price model and the zoning model into a software tool named Sparkman that can be used by university parking offices to improve their parking operations.
Simulation and Analytical Evaluation of Bus Redesign Alternatives in Transit Deserts with Ride-hail Presence
Principal Investigator: Joseph Chow, NYU
Objective: This project seeks to investigate how well a proposed redesign of the Brooklyn bus network performs compared to the existing network or other alternatives using a citywide simulation tool, as well as use analytical models to explore the impact ride-hail has on transit design.
    Safety & Cybersecurity
Increasing Work Zone Safety: Worker Behavioral Analysis with Integration of Wearable Sensors and Virtual Reality
Principal Investigator: Semiha Ergan, NYU
Objective: Understand the key parameters that play roles in achieving responsive behaviors
in workers. Using wearable sensors and VR representationsof work zones, collect worker behavioral and physiological responses to warnings issued under various realistic scenarios and using different warning mechanisms.
Developing Secure Strategies for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks in Connected and Autonomous Vehicles
Principal Investigator: Quanyan Zhu, NYU
Objective: Develop countermeasures to false data injection attacks, in which a malicious agent aims to affect the behvior of vehicles in the network by injecting false information, using anomaly identification techniques based on learning and detection algorithms.
